Q. How much did the federal and provincial governments invest under Intake Two?
A. In June, the governments of Canada and Ontario announced a total joint investment of more than $408 million in 183 communities with populations under 100,000. In February, under Intake One, they announced a total joint investment of more than $685 million in 290 communities with populations under 100,000.
Together with contributions from municipalities, the total investment in local infrastructure projects will exceed $1.6 billion under the Building Canada Fund Communities Component.
Q. How many applications were submitted under Intake Two?
A. Ontario municipalities submitted more than 430 applications with total project costs of more than $1.5 billion.
Q. How were projects selected for funding?
A. The Communities Component is a competitive, merit-based program. Applications were assessed by the Joint Secretariat, which is comprised of officials from Industry Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, with assistance provided by the technical ministries. All the projects were reviewed using the materials submitted by the applicants.
Many good projects were submitted. Some difficult decisions had to be made, as the demand significantly exceeded the funds available for the second intake.
Q. My project has been funded, what are the next steps?
A. The BCF-CC Joint Secretariat will develop a Contribution Agreement with you (the recipient) to provide a mechanism to flow funds. Eligible costs are paid by the recipient and submitted to the Joint Secretariat for reimbursement, up to the maximum eligible costs as outlined in the Contribution Agreement.
