Canada-Ontario Building Canada Fund - Communities Component
June 5, 2009
Under the Building Canada Fund - Communities Component, the governments of Canada and Ontario are contributing two-thirds of the total eligible costs of these projects, and Ontario communities are contributing the remainder of the funds. Today’s announcement provides more than $408 million in joint federal and provincial funding for 183 communities in Ontario. With municipal contributions, the total climbs to more than $600 million. The federal contribution includes funding from the additional $500 million national “top up” for the Communities Component announced in Budget 2009 for projects that can be built over the next two years, which is being matched by the Government of Ontario.
Canada and Ontario are working together to create jobs and boost the economy, while making significant investments that help communities improve their infrastructure. Both governments have agreed to work together to ensure that these funds are delivered quickly and efficiently to municipalities in Ontario.
In February 2009, the governments of Canada and Ontario announced that 290 infrastructure projects in small communities across Ontario will move forward thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of $687 million through Intake One of the Communities Component program. Together with municipal contributions, the total investment in local infrastructure projects will be over $1 billion.
Under the Communities Component, projects were evaluated by a joint federal-provincial committee through a competitive application-based process.
Listed below is a summary of Intake Two Communities Component funding.
