Q. Why am I required to put up signage for both the federal and provincial governments?
A. Under these programs, recipients are responsible for the production and installation of project signage to recognize the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, the Recipient and other financial contributors to the project.
On January 27, the Government of Canada launched the Economic Action Plan to stimulate the economy as a response to the global economic downturn. The federal government has recently developed a comprehensive signage strategy to ensure that all projects funded under the Economic Action Plan follow a single, consistent brand. This will ensure that all programs, services and initiatives related to the Economic Action Plan are visible, accessible and accountable to Canadians.
In order for this strategy to be executed in a timely and efficient manner, we are requesting that all Economic Action Plan project signs be produced and installed by September 1, 2009.
The Government of Ontario has also developed a signage strategy and is asking municipalities to develop and install provincial signs in proximity to the federal sign that is required for all projects.
Q. Do we need to produce and install both a federal and provincial sign for each project that has received funding?
A. Yes. All projects funded under these programs should have a federal and provincial sign produced and installed. Clear and concise branding will ensure that all programs, services and initiatives are visible, accessible and accountable to Ontarians.
Q. Our project has multiple phases, do we need to produce a federal and provincial sign for each phase of the project?
A. If the phases of your project are all at the same location, or under construction at the same time you only need one set of signs; however, the project signs must be installed at the relevant location for the duration of the construction of all phases.
A. If the projects are at the same location and related to the same type of infrastructure, you only need one set of signs; however, the project signs must be installed for the duration of construction of all three projects.
A. No, you may choose to install one set of project signs at the location with the most public visibility.
Q. The majority of my project involves work underground. Where should I install the signs?
A. Please install your signage in a visible location that is close to or relevant to your project. For example, if work is being done to repair watermains, your project signage could be placed on the road above where the work is occurring.
Q. What if we have already produced a sign?
A. If you have already produced a sign, you are still required to install an additional federal and provincial sign according to the federal and provincial style guides.
Please take two photos of the signs and send them to the Joint Secretariat at bcfsignage@ontario.ca.
A. As the two signage strategies are initiatives of each level of government, no other logos or branding should appear on these signs.
Q. Can logos or names of design and/or engineering firms and/or contractors involved with the project appear on the federal and provincial signs?
A. Logos and references to design and/or engineering firms and/or contractors involved with the project should not be attached to the federal or provincial project signage.
Q. We would like to recognize our municipal contribution through signage. Can this be included on the federal and provincial signs?
A. Both the Governments of Canada and Ontario recognize that this is a joint funding program and therefore the funding contributions of all levels of government should be recognized equally. You are welcome to install a municipal sign that represents the municipal contribution to the project, and/or others involved in the project, such as design, engineering, construction or project management companies.
Q. Will we be reimbursed for the entire cost of all project signage?
A. Signage costs can be claimed as eligible costs within the funds approved for your project, under the cost-sharing model developed for the program.
A. The federal government recently developed a signage strategy that provides guidance on a single, consistent brand to be used to identify Economic Action Plan projects. This strategy is being implemented to ensure that all programs, services and initiatives are visible, accessible and accountable to Canadians.
As a result The Government of Ontario has also developed a signage strategy and is asking municipalities to produce and install provincial signs in proximity to the federal sign that is required for all projects.
Q. How long must the sign remain after the project is completed?
A. A sign should remain installed at the project site for 90 days after construction is completed.
Q. Work on our project will be completed shortly, do we still need to produce a sign?
A. Yes, all projects should have a sign produced and installed for the duration of the 90 day period after the project is completed.
Q. I have specific questions about my sign, who can I contact?
A. Please contact the Joint Secretariat by email at bcfsignage@ontario.ca or by phone at 1 866 306-7827.
Q. How do I access the signage templates?
A. Templates and signage specifications are available for download at www.bcfontario.ca. Please insert the appropriate English and French title that reflects your project before the sign produced.
A. To ensure consistency in the look and feel of signage, and to avoid signs with long and technical project names, titles included in the style guide should be used to the extent possible for each project sign.
If a given project does not readily fit into one of the categories provided, please contact the Joint Secretariat for guidance and for French translation services.
Q. Do we need to submit a proof for approval before producing the sign?
A. As you are following the specifications, templates and bilingual project titles included in the style guide, approval of a proof is not necessary.
Q. Who will provide the French translation for the project titles?
A. All English and French titles are available online at www.bcfontario.ca
